Annie and I spent last weekend in Jefferson City, MO . . . Capitol of the State. One of the highlights of our visit was a 3-hour tour of the Old Missouri State Penitentiary which closed in 2004. This was an extremely educational and enjoyable tour. If you have not toured the prison and have the opportunity to do so, they have several types of tours which must be scheduled on-line. They have history tours, both 2 & 3 hour tours. We took the 3 hour tour and the people we heard from stated it was much better than the 2-hour tour. They also have paranormal tours. Check them out on-line if interested . . . www.MissouriPenTours.com . Enjoy the slide show!
Getting There & Sirena del Mar Resort
Annie and I just got back from a wonderful week in Cabo San Lucas where we stayed at the Welk – Sierna del Mar Resort. We left Kansas City at 6:10 am and beat the snow storm that moved in later that day and closed the airport. We had to change planes in Denver and did so with no issues. The photos in the below slideshow show a few shots in Denver and then you will see a number of photos from our resort to include photos taken from our 3rd floor ocean facing deck. This was our first visit to this part of the globe and we had a very relaxing time. Annie did get to do some shopping and our ventures around the southern tip of Baja will be detailed in two upcoming Blogs; 1.) The Los Cobos Encounter and 2.) Todos Santos . . . .
The Los Cabos Encounter
This was a 7 hour tour with Esperanza’s Tours; it included a visit to Mirador Costa Azul, the San Jose Estuary, Puerto Los Cabos, the art district in San Jose, Lunch at family owned Mexican Restaurant in Cabo San Lucas, tour of a glass blowing operation in the poorer section of town, a boat ride out and up close to the famed Arch of Cabo San Lucas, Tequila tasting and shopping in Cabo San Lucas. It was a long day but the tour driver, a native of Cabo San Lucas, gave us an insightful history lesson and inspiration for our exploration the following day. The photos included in this slide show were all taken during this tour.
Todos Santos
For this trip we rented a car and drove North on Hwy 19 for about 90 minutes. We were told to get back before dark because of the open range in this desert area. Cattle and other animals are almost impossible to see as it gets very dark. We did get back before dark. Todos Santos is a small coastal town in the foothills of the Sierra de la Laguna Mountains, on the Pacific coast side of the Baja California Peninsula. Handicraft shops, owner-operated art galleries featuring landscape paintings of local scenes, upscale restaurants, boutique hotels and restored colonial buildings have contributed to the gentrification and redevelopment of the town. The Hotel California is a favorite stop here because of the name association with the song made famous by the Eagles, even though the song does not specifically reference this particular hotel, nor any other existing hotel. Bright colors adorn many of the buildings and add a very interesting touch to the otherwise bleak desert surroundings.
