Day 2 - 8 - RMNP Vacation

August 17, 2016  •  1 Comment

As I mentioned in my last Blog posting, I am now sharing some of the images captured while visiting Estes Park, the Rocky Mountain National Park and the YMCA Camp of the Rockies where we stayed. The images do include a few pictures of my Granddaughter; she was too cute not to include. The last images in the attached slide show are that of a professional and certified bird bander. He catches all kinds of birds and places a tag on their leg. The presentation that we attended at the YMCA of the Rockies was very informative and interesting. The birds you see in his hands are not harmed and he catches many that he has already banded.
My next Blog will feature images captured as we head South from the Rocky Mountain National Park. I think you may enjoy the images captured from this leg of our journey as we pass thru Fairplay, CO which hosts the ‘South Park City exhibit and then on to the Great Sand Dunes National Park. Be sure to check back in a day or two for those images. If you enjoy what you see, please like and share this on your social media site.  Thanks!

Day 1 - Vacation to RMNP

The wife and I recently returned from a 2 week trip to the West . . . . As you may have seen in some recent Facebook posts, we drove from KC to the YMCA Camp of the Rockies just outside of the Rocky Mountain National Park (RMNP).

En-route, we stopped in Victoria, KS and viewed The Basilica of St. Fidelis aka Cathedral of the Plains; this is one of the eight wonders of Kansas.  St. Fidelis Church was placed in the National Register of Historic Places as a building of "architectural significance."

We then traveled on to Boulder, CO and spent a few hours at the outdoor Pearl Street Mall . . . very impressive; I’ve never been there before. We met my son, his wife and their 2 year old daughter there as we were spending the week at the YMCA of the Rockies at their invitation. Pearl Street Mall was quite impressive; it was adorned with bronze statues, flowers, a water park for kids in which to play, minstrels, artists and the requisite eclectic shops with many shoppers/visitors on a beautiful day.

On this 1st blog of this vacation I am showing images captured at both the Cathedral of the Plains and the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder.

I will continue the Blog with pictures taken in The Town of Estes Park, CO and the RMNP as well as other locations after departing the YMCA of the Rockies in future days so please come back to my web page (www.dfp-photos.com) and click on the Blog link for updates.  Enjoy.

Kiss Performers Pay Tribute to Veterans

Kiss performers, Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley are in Kansas City for a performance tonight, however, yesterday afternoon they spent several hours at the Rock & Brew Restaurant @ Prairie Fire to honor more than 50 veterans who were in attendance.  I had the opportunity to be there and take a few photographs of not only Paul and Gene, but the crowd and the restaurant décor. Rock & Brew is decorated in a style complimentary to its founding fathers, two of which are Gene and Paul.

Gene and Paul also partnered with Cars for Heroes’ and that organization was also present to give away a car to a Veteran (Natasha) in need.  Needless to say, I was extremely impressed by the generosity of the Kiss performers and their sincere attitude to the Veteran community. It was great to see them interact with the Vet’s and those in attendance!

If you’re going to the show tonight, enjoy!

Future Stages Festival

Last Sunday my wife and I attended some of the Future Stages Festival Performances held at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. We were there because my 10 year old Granddaughter was dancing with the Jody Phillips Dance Company. We got there early to select our seats so I could photograph some of the performances. The below slide show contains a few photos from:

Lyric Opera of Kansas City - Kids in Opera;

Kansas City Ballet;

Ailey Camp - the Group; and the

Jody Phillips Dance Company.

By the way, the young red-headed boy in the Jody Phillips Dance Company, with a different expression on his face all the time, appeared on the Ellen Show in September 2015, dancing to Taylor Swifts 'Shake It Off'. You can see that performance here. Our Granddaughter is one of the primary dancers with whom he dances . . . .

Crystal Bridges [May 2016]

After leaving Branson, MO we moved on to Bentonville, AR to visit both the Indian Museum and Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. We've been to both of these locations previously but there is always something new to see. I've included a few new images captured while visiting Crystal Bridges and they can be seen in the below slideshow. If you are interested in seeing additional images of Crystal Bridges captured previously, they can be found co-mingled in my Architecture | Structures Portfolio found here.  If you are planning to go to Crystal Bridges and want to tour the Frank Lloyd Wright home that has been moved to the property, you will need to buy a ticket at least 4 days prior to visiting. We attempted to buy tickets but there was no availability . . .  check their web site @ http://crystalbridges.org/
